MENTAL HEALTH GROUPS AND WORKSHOPS

WORKING WITH EMOTIONS DBT SKILLS GROUP

Tuesdays, Sept 15 – Nov 10, 2026 | 1:30-3pm

Location: myFM Centre (OPG Multipurpose Room), 1 Ma-te-Way Park Dr, Renfrew, ON

Maximum participants: 12

Cost: free

The ‘Working with Emotions’ Program offers Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills (DBT), which is considered to be an effective therapy in helping people manage overwhelming emotions. Research shows that DBT strengthens a person’s ability to handle distress, without losing control or making impulsive decisions.

The skill areas are: distress tolerance, mindfulness practices, emotion regulation skills, and relationship skills.

This is not a therapy or support group, but a psychoeducational and skills group offered by our Mental Health Team, where you will take time to learn skills and process how you might use them. It gives an opportunity to learn from group members which is very important in a group setting.

The components are an 8-week DBT skills group and 3 individual support sessions. A participant must be able to commit to all components of the program including attending all group meetings and individual sessions.

A 10-15 minute individual information phone call will be arranged before the group starts so we can consider all details and questions you might have and also if the program is truly a good fit and the timing feels right to register.
